She's Back!

You guys... It's official. I'm the worst
. I literally have not opened this blog since Oli was 6 months old. Two years ago! That's really sad.
BUT! I've had this itch to blog again for a couple reasons.
1- Memories. Let's be honest, I don't write in my journal more than once a year.
I need some way to record whats-a-happenin' in our little family.
2- My sanity. If you are around little kids all day, you know what I mean.
There's only so much fb and insta scrolling you can do throughout the day to take a little break from the daily tantrums and frequent bum changes.
So HEY! I'm really hoping this will last and I'll find joy in writing out some of my thoughts.
I may even share some of my favorite recipes and other yummy things like that. We shall see.

FAQ's

Last night a total stranger made me feel pretty lousy about myself while asking me questions about my life.
Seriously within 15 minutes of meeting this person, I wanted to cry
Sometimes people ask me questions that I'm sure they don't mean to come off as insensitive...
but I think there's a time when you just need to stop asking. If that makes any sense at all.
So I'm here today to answer some things that some of you may be wondering...just so we're clear.
I may come off as a bit intense, but that's just because I'm tired of feeling judged.
So hopefully this makes me feel better. We'll see.

Why did you move from Logan to Bountiful?
Both of our sets of parents are here in Bountiful/Salt Lake so we were driving down here almost every single week. We literally never had time to relax on the weekends, as most of them were spent in the car. Also, Jon has always wanted to go to the UofU. He really just came up to USU because that's where I was at the time he returned from his mish. Now that we're here, my feller can truly bleed red.

Have you graduated?
Nope, not with my Bachelor's degree at least. I do have my Associate's degree plus many credits beyond that, but wouldn't have my Bachelor's for about 2 more year- thanks to not being able to make up my mind in the beginning about what I wanted to do.

So why did you stop going to school?
{this one is awkward to answer, especially when I have to really explain myself}
When I started college I didn't qualify for any grants or good loans, so I worked all summer to pretty much pay for housing and living expenses and the rest of my schooling was paid for with unsubsidized loans. If you don't know what those are, you're lucky. Basically they started accruing interest from day one, so today I have about $4,000 in debt JUST in credit. With that on top of the loans itself, I feel like I'm drowning.
So we would really like to get that paid off asap, and I can't really work full time and pay for life and such if I'm going to school.
Also, Jon and I had very strong feelings that I should stop going to school so we could start a family.
If you'd like to know more about that you can ask me.

When will you back to school?
Haha. Probably not for a while. Like I said, debt doesn't just go away.
I would definitely like to be a teacher in the future but can't see myself doing that before having children.
I'd really like to go back when I'm older and the kids are in school.

Isn't it just so hard to find a good job?
{this is usually asked while I'm at work and someone sees me}
Well I actually have a good job that pays pretty well, I feel so lucky to have this job. Yes it's too bad I look super great in my uniform { :) } but I'm paying the bills and am so grateful I am able to do so.

Why don't you have any kids yet?
I keep wondering the same thing.

Why would Jon go into dentistry, his family surely doesn't need another one?
Working on people's teeth kind of comes naturally to Jon, maybe this is because he has worked with his dad and brother for so long. It is a fantastic job that will support our family down the road. Hopefully no one thinks we are choosing the easy road, because it is an extremely expensive one to get down.
If you'd like to talk about your thoughts on how dentists are selfish, I'll let you talk to Jon :)
This summer really gave Jon a new perspective on being a salesman. We at least know that he does NOT want to do that forever {besides selling your skills, of course}
We are hoping that a few years after dental school  we will be in a place {financially speaking} where Jon can get an education in music/sound engineering. He has always dreamed of doing this, so it will happen. We're just trying to choose the best order in which to do things.

Why would you dye your hair black?
{this is usually asked by little kids. Good thing they're cute ;)}
Well it was an accident, I was definitely going for dark brown.
Now that it has been a couple days it has actually kind of grown on me!

So today I'm feeling extremely grateful for a supportive husband and family and friends that are so understanding. Without these people I might just be hiding from the world.
Here's to gaining some confidence and knowing just what to say.

New Hobby

Homeboy is in town. How excited are you?? Ecstatic I'm sure.
We've had such a fun day, just the two of us.
Have you ever gone to a trampoline house?
I didn't think I'd feel out of place at all, but we received some not-so-loving looks from parents on the sidelines.
I guess we are too old to have fun or something.
But we already knew that fifteen minutes into our play time when we were sweating and out of breath.
I miss being "young" and in shape! I blame the yogurt.
We were discussing an activity slash hobby we'd like to do together. Here's what we came up with:
ROLLER BLADING!
That's right ladies and gentleman. We're bringing sexy back. Just you wait.
Happy Sunday!

Well...

Hey. Hello. Hi. Hola. Howdy. Holler. Wassup.
We had our grand opening on Saturday. Let me just tell ya, it was CRAZY.
I was honestly shocked at how messy people were!
What is it about "free yogurt and toppings" that makes people go psycho?
The floor was trashed, the toppings were getting mixed, and people were grumpy.
Managing a froyo joint...it's a hard life.
JK I love it, I'm just happy that day is ova.

My Feller might be able to visit this weekend.
I'm pretty upset that it's only Monday because that means I still have 4 days.
I'm usually a ppp {pretty-patient-person} but not when it comes to getting my husband back.
He needs to get here NOW!
Or at least before I turn all free-froyo-psycho on ya'll.

Did anyone else watch the Bachelorette?
I did. Well I watched 3 of the last 4 episodes, but that was enough to make me fall for Jef.
Good thing the beautiful Emily chose him!
My next goal in life is to make Jon dress like the Utahn stallion without making it too obvious.
That boy has got some serious style!
And  I know his hair is fantastic, but I guess I won't push it too far. Jon, you can keep your mane.

I went to my Grandpa's 80th birthday tonight.
It was like a little family reunion, I quite enjoyed seeing some of my cousins that I haven't seen in 11 years. Yes 11. I know it's ridiculous.
Anyway, my grandpa is one gooood looking eighty year old! I surely hope I got his great genes, he doesn't look a day over 65 to me.
I have so many fun memories with my grandpa. We used to live just across the creek from him and grandma so I was over there playing with my cousins ALL THE TIME. {My poor grandma, she probably hoped to be done raising kids at that point! We were little terrors.}
Just some of my favorite memories:
Playing giddy-up on grandpa's lap
Gramps helping me with math. I have loved math ever since he gave me some knowledge.
Walking over each Sunday for church and {amazing} dinner
TONS of sleepovers
Halloween parties, the haunted forest
Trips to Carl's Jr for the star nuggets
Riding the ATV's
 Looking through old photo albums
Putting on dances and plays with the cousins, I can't believe our grandparent's actually sat through all of them!
Ginger-ale and crackers when I was sick
Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat
Grandpa sharing his Dr Pepper with me because I somehow convinced him it helped me fall asleep :)
Telling them they weren't "old geezers" until they turned 80. {I think I'll change that to 90 now}
..and so many more. I definitely miss being a kid and Grandma and Grandpa's house,
I'm so blessed to have had them as examples of hard work, love and faith.
Happy birthday Gramps!

I hope everyone is taking advantage of family time, especially after what has happened in Colorado this past week.
I cannot stop thinking about it.
It makes me so grateful for each day I have to live with so many wonderful people in my life.
Here's to hoping I stop taking things for granted.

ps. If you want to make a child's WORLD, do the spider on a swing with them.
You won't regret it.

Remind Me

I want to go on a run in the morning.

Will everyone please remind me tomorrow that I actually said this?
I seem to forget more and more with each smack of the snooze button.

Thanks. Talk to you tomorrow.

take me to the sun!

Well, this week has finally come.
On Thursday we're headed to Cancun with the Feller Family!
Jon's parents give their children an adult vacation
each year for Christmas.{we are adults, ya know!}
Basically...we're really excited.
And fearful these next three days will feel really long.
Also...my skin hasn't seen the sun in months.
So Cancunians, prepare to be blinded!
(not so sure Cancunians is even a word. oh well)
This new year has been quite good so far.
We've been lucky enough to see our good
friends at least twice in the past month, which sadly... is rare!
Thank you, Karin and Emily for being prego.
(baby showers are what have brought us togetha.)
I was good and brought my camera to Karin's baby shower,
but not Em's.

You may be wondering why MEN were at the baby shower??
Well, these were taken after all the baby stuff went down,
and the boys were just down the stairs watching a movie,
so they joined us for dessert.
Also pictured above is a few of us at Mike's mission homecoming!
I met Mike and the rest of these wonderful people
(missing Josh in the pic) my freshman year
here at Utah State, and they are some of my best friends.
I'm so grateful we all lived in the
same dorm, or I would've probably left USU and never looked back
3 years ago!
Val has been my roomie up until marriage, and we're still going strong!
{friendship wise. :)} she is so great.
All of us have been able to get together a few times since Mike has gotten home, since we're all here in Logan.  Love you guys!
Last night Jon and I went to dinner to celebrate Valentine's a little early.

Here we are standing in front of 1 of the 3 little decorations I put together for love month.
Yeah...they're not that great, so I think I'll spare pics of the others ;)

We went to Firehouse pizza, pretty much just for the Fh'zookies
{or however you spell it...}
It was packed! But somehow we were seated and fed pretty quickly.
I wish I would've taken some pictures, but I thought I would feel silly
amongst all the other pizza eaters...
Maybe next time.
I made a goal to take more pictures. Would you agree that I'm failing so far?

Anyway.

I am looking forward to this next week, it will be so awesome to get away for a little bit!
Cross your fingers that Jon won't fall too far behind in his classes...we'll see if he actually does
some homework while we're laying on the beach ;)

Jan 3, 2012

let's do this

I'm on day 2 of P90X. 88 days to go.
Jon and I started this workout last year and somehow stopped after about 30 days,
so my goal is to go the full ninety days!
I'm not a huge fan of working out in the living room...something about carpet burns and the tight space,
but it'll do.
We'll see how it goes!
What are your goals for this year?

Fr-iLoveYou-day

Hello weekend.
I was beginning to think you wouldn't get here.
My Chem teacher, Dr. Jacobsen just earned the "Best Person of the Day" award for canceling class as soon as we all sat down today. Wise decision, sir.
As I was walking home from my canceled, I had some thoughts that I'd like to share.
#1- My new personal goal: I will get my hair trimmed every 2 months. {It's a little ridiculous when it takes 2+ years to grow 4 inches of hair}. I may need your guys' encouragement/friendly little reminders on this one.
#2- Spring is here. For today at least. Just ignore the snow on the grass.
#3- The sound of making a call is annoying. RING RING. They should come up with something new, besides the tunes we are encouraged to enjoy while our party is reached.
#4- Dr. Jacobsen=awesome.
#5- I'm really excited to marry Jon.
#6- I wish your re-growth hair roots would just be the same color as the color you have at that time. Life would be easier. We'd all save money, unless we are addicted to hair-change.
#7- Spring break is the best decision school's ever made.

So last night Jon, Mindi, and I spent quite a while making the final decision on the tables/decorations for the reception. You'd think it would be simple...or at least I did...thanks for your help, Mindi :)
For all the sistas and brothers and parents that might read this blog. or post. Here are the colors. Please try to coordinate. Thanks guys!
ps- guess what's being altered right now? :)
